The Department of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego (https://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department of Psychiatry in partnership with the Sanford Institute seeks candidates whose research, teaching, and/or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to excellence, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.
Candidates will be expected to establish a rigorous program of high-quality research and to pursue research and teaching activities aligned with the mission of the Department of Psychiatry and the Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion. An interest in contributing to empathy and compassion mentoring programs at UC San Diego is also expected.
The successful candidates will also be expected to teach, which may include lecturing and mentoring in our various educational programs (see https://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/education-training/index.html), participate in basic or translational research, and/or the clinical care of patients.
The appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Candidates must have a PhD in health sciences or related fields and/or MD degree or equivalent.
Candidates must have a current research program in a health related discipline with a track record of obtaining extramural funding and productivity with regard to peer-reviewed publications.
Candidates must also have a track record of teaching and/or mentorship activities.
Candidates with a MD or equivalent with clinical duties must be Board certified or Board eligible in their related field and must also be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Candidates with experience conducting basic or applied research relevant to the understanding of empathy and/or compassion are preferred.
Candidates who have made contributions relevant to the field of social psychology/neuroscience are preferred.
