The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC), in Gloucester, Massachusetts, is seeking a part-time (around 30 hours/week) Director to join our team and lead our nonprofit organization and art galleries. The Director will have overall operational responsibility for implementing the Mission of the Rocky Neck Art Colony. He or she will have the skills and responsibility for working within the organizational structure of RNAC to engage and motivate volunteers and staff, assure that budget and fiscal guidelines are maintained, oversee marketing and public relations for RNAC programs, partner with colleagues in other arts and community organizations, and accept other roles as developed by the Executive Committee.
The new Director will play a crucial role in working with the Executive Committee and Board of RNAC to create a sustainable volunteer and paid staffing structure for the organization. Accordingly, this person will improve management efficiencies and address operational matters effectively. This position reports to the Executive Committee.
The Director is responsible for managing budgets and providing regular reporting on membership, funding, staffing and volunteer recruitment to the RNAC Executive Committee and Board. In addition, the Director will communicate regularly with the vibrant community of 300+ RNAC members on key topics such as RNAC activities, membership events and opportunities, and volunteer recruitment activities. The Director will play a crucial role in driving RNAC towards its Strategic Plan by creating and implementing road maps for marketing, new resources and membership engagement.
The Director will work with various volunteer committees and partner organizations to ensure the RNAC maintains its position as a prominent arts leader.
Responsibilities Include:
- Manage/Oversee all operations of the Cultural Center and RNAC galleries, including events, education initiatives and other activities
- Achieve effective internal and external communication with a focus on building strong professional relationships that meet or exceed the organization’s strategic goals and objectives
- Formulate accurate and timely analysis reports to communicate fundraising results, membership connections and overall performance trends of the organization
- Deliver effective leadership and management of staff by providing guidance, encouragement and direction to paid staff, volunteers and outside consultants.
- Ensure the retention a diverse, highly qualified staff of volunteers fostering inspiration and facilitating personal/professional development with clear direction and goal setting
- Enhance RNAC presence as an essential leader and partner within the Cape Ann arts community
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Cultural Center and RNAC initiatives, engaging staff and volunteers as needed
- Provide leadership and management of staff to ensure appropriate support of all committees
- Chair 6x/year membership meetings and report to the Executive Committee.
- Proven work experience as a Director of a nonprofit or similar role
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and designate as needed. Emphasis on managing organizational efficiency
- Experience running arts programming, particularly on Cape Ann
- Knowledge of volunteer recruitment and how to get individuals involved for the organization’s success
- Experience with Gmail, lightweight CRM programs, QuickBooks and MailChimp
- Ease with written and spoken communication to inform and inspire
- Passion for the arts and the positive power of community
