Automation Engineer
Job Description
AUTOMATION ENGINEER, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research (KI)-High Throughput Sciences (HTS), to assume a pivotal role operating and enhancing automated instrumentation. Will collaborate with world-renowned scientists and engineers to develop and productionize new automated solutions to accelerate discoveries and shape the future of oncology. Responsibilities include designing and operating project-specific automated workflows and data solutions; maintenance of integrated systems; training researchers in use of automation and data; maintaining vendor relationships and service contracts; coordinating HTS campaign scheduling; evaluating new software/hardware; partnering with IT for efficient data management; performing monitoring, troubleshooting, and other sustaining activities; participating in conferences to evaluating new trends in automation; and handling other duties as requested. Duties may involve exerting light-to-medium force to move objects weighing 10-20 lbs.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in a bioengineering, computer science, chemistry, biology, or related discipline; at least four years’ lab automation, screening, or related experience (may include two years’ experience gained as undergraduate); experience with automation software (e.g., Freedom EVOware); experience integrating liquid handlers to analytical instrumentation via robotic arms and scheduler software; attention to detail; excellent organizational, time management, documentation, and communication skills; discretion and judgment with confidential information; and ability to work as part of a team, teach others, adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED: experience with high-content screening and compound or genetic library management; experience with biological data analysis; and working knowledge of common programming and data science tools such as Python, JavaScript, C#, R, Azure/GCP/AWS, and/or Docker.
