Job Description
Wiley University is seeking a Chairperson and Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education. The Department Chair of Education at Wiley University plays a pivotal role in providing leadership, vision, and administrative oversight to the Education department. As the academic leader, the Department Chair fosters a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service while promoting a supportive and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students. The Chairperson of Early Childhood Education reports to the Dean of Education and Sciences and works closely with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to advance the department's mission and goals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Provide visionary leadership to advance the academic mission of the Education department in alignment with the goals and values of Wiley University.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the quality of teaching, research, and service within the department.
- Oversee the development, review, and revision of undergraduate and graduate curricula to ensure alignment with disciplinary standards, emerging trends, and the needs of students.
- Encourage innovative teaching methods and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Teaches a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours per semester.
- Lead efforts in recruiting, retaining, and mentoring a diverse and talented faculty. Support faculty professional development initiatives, including research activities, grant writing, and pedagogical training.
- Manage departmental assessments effectively.
- Coordinate class schedules, faculty workload assignments, and student advising activities.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and accreditation standards.
- Promote a student-centered approach to education by fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Encourage student involvement in research, internships, and community engagement opportunities.
- Foster a culture of scholarly inquiry and research excellence within the department.
- Support faculty research endeavors, facilitate collaborative projects, and promote dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations.
- Cultivate partnerships with local communities, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to promote sociological research, advocacy, and public engagement.
- Enhance the department's visibility and impact both within and beyond the university.
- Serve on departmental, school, and university committees as required.
- Collaborate with other department chairs and university administrators to advance institutional goals and initiatives.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
Substantial teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. A record of scholarly achievement, including publications and research grants. Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and external stakeholders.
