Job Title- PT ACADEMIC ADVISOR-PATHWAYS (Pool)
Position Status- Part Time
Classification Title- Part-Time Hourly-Up to 17 hpw
Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- The Part-Time Pathways Advisor provides a vital role in supporting our transient student population by guiding them through the admissions process, program selection, and registration. The Advisor will work remotely, fostering connections with students from diverse backgrounds and locations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Proficiency in student information systems and online communication tools
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and social skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines
- Ability to analyze complete situation accurately and adopt effective course of action
- Ability to handle a fast-paced work environment with interruptions and detail-oriented tasks
- Ability to research, learn, and accurately provide information to students on a variety of topics
- Excellent oral communication, customer service, and public relations skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Understanding of TSI regulations
- One or more years of experience in an educational setting
- Proven ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
Essential Functions
- Process admission applications for transient students, ensuring all required documents are complete and accurate
- Be the first point of contact for incoming transient students, providing a warm and informative welcome experience
- Advise students on program options that align with their academic goals and transfer needs
- Guide students through the course registration process, ensuring they meet all prerequisites and create a manageable schedule
- Conduct outreach initiatives to attract and connect with potential transient students from various backgrounds
- Stay up-to-date on institutional policies, academic programs, and transfer credit guidelines
- Collaborate with University Advisors to promote Midland College course offerings and facilitate the transfer process for students, resulting in a growth of the transient population
- Ability to be on the main campus for training and meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
- Duties indoors and some outdoors
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $20.00 per hour
Max Salary- $20.00 per hour
