Job Description
INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE OFFICER, Environmental Health and Safety Office, to support academic and business objectives while ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety laws, federal and state regulations, and best practices. This role is part of a multi-disciplinary EHS Office serving the entire MIT community. Conduct risk and exposure assessments, including air and wipe sampling, recommend controls to eliminate or reduce exposures, conduct indoor air quality investigations, develop, revise, and deliver training sessions, serve as an active member of an EHS Service Team. Perform ergonomic assessments, participate in off-hours on-call rotation for campus emergencies, manage assigned programs (e.g., Methylene Chloride Program), assist with shipping hazardous chemicals and batteries.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in environment, health and safety, or related discipline (e.g., engineering, physical or biological sciences, chemistry), minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, proven technical skills and ability to perform hazard assessments. Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, IATA, DOT, and fire department regulations; effective written and oral communication skills; basic computer and database skills. PREFERRED: master’s degree and certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist); evidence of leadership and ability to implement integrated EHS programs; ability to influence and inspire staff, colleagues, and managers.
