Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Assistant Director, Prospect Management is an intermediate level position responsible for performing prospect development functions primarily in support of major and principal gift fundraising.

This position manages a data driven moves management program, provides actionable analyses to optimize fundraiser performance, drives cross-departmental prospect strategy through collaborative efforts, and develops prospect management training for University Relations (UR) staff. Through these activities, the Assistant Director, Prospect Management helps Prospect Research and Management (PRM) maintain data integrity and support campaign preparedness.

Core responsibilities include conducting portfolio reviews, using data to support fundraiser strategies and performance insights, driving the creation and implementation of new/enhanced policies, procedures, and protocols, and contributing to special projects to advance the prospect development program.

The role will directly manage one and will assist team leadership with the annual budgeting process. The incumbent will serve as a resource for staff across UR on prospect management tools, including database and reporting resources. The Assistant Director, Prospect Management also performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college or university.

Experience:
Five (5) years of professional experience. Experience in prospect development or in a higher education advancement setting supporting business operations and frontline staff is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, and to formulate productive partnerships with individuals and groups of all levels of UR staff.
  • Exceptional computer skills that include Microsoft Office and Google Suite of products and relational databases. Proficiency with Excel required. Experience working with a CRM/database (preferably Ellucian Advance and/or Salesforce) and PowerBI preferred.
  • Outstanding organization, planning and analytical skills. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Capable of appropriately handling confidential and proprietary information and using sound judgment in working with sensitive material.
  • Staff management skills that support a positive, productive, and inclusive team culture. Ability to delegate tasks while maintaining an appropriate level of oversight.

  • Project management skills.
  • Solid understanding of the development cycle. Identify best practices for prospect development and adhere to industry standards and ethical guidelines, such as those promoted by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA)
  • Self-starter with a proven ability to proactively set priorities, manage multiple detailed projects simultaneously, learn and execute new concepts quickly, take ownership of major areas of responsibility, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and function in a team environment.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Change management knowledge and working experience are highly preferred. Experience in complex fundraising organizations, preferably for higher education or health-care institutions, is preferred.

This position allows for a combination of in-person and telework days as approved by the supervisor. Guidance regarding hybrid work is subject to change at any time to align with operational or business needs.

Salary Range is $90,625 – $110,000.
