Summary of Position

Advise the UNH community and international students (and scholars as required) on appropriate immigration classifications, regulations, proper documentation, processes and related matters consistent with university policies/procedures; issue immigration and related documents on behalf of the university. Facilitate student academic success by providing advice, support with cultural adjustment/ engagement and appropriate referrals. Ensure university compliance with federal (e.g., Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and state regulations by providing a centralized resource pertaining to the enrollment of international students.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

A successful candidate must have demonstrated experience with high level of attention to detail, effective communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of UNH community members from diverse backgrounds. Experience living and/or studying abroad preferred.

Duty/Responsibility

  • In conjunction with the SEVIS Coordinator, work on pre- and post-admissions processing and advising of incoming undergraduate and graduate international students.
  • Advise UNH departments and prospective students on immigration requirements; provide detailed instructions on relevant procedures.

Duty/Responsibility

  • In conjunction with the Senior Immigration Advisor, facilitate international student enrollment as a Designated School Official for F program and Alternate Responsible Officer for J exchange student program, issue Certificates of Eligibility for students and eligible dependents.
  • Advise students at multiple campuses on immigration rights, responsibilities, and immigration benefits.
  • Review, approve or recommend for approval requests for changes of status, extensions of stay, reductions in course load, employment authorization on and off-campus, etc.
  • Assist students to navigate their academic experience by providing academic and career planning as it relates to their post-graduation work authorization.
  • Facilitate student success and retention by supporting academic and personal goals.
  • Provide academic support, especially interpreting the academic system and how to access on-campus resources.
  • Coach students through the academic appeal process, student conduct procedures, withdrawals, Leave of Absences, re-admissions and similar processes and requests.
  • Counsel and support students dealing with legal, medical and mental health issues to minimize the potential impact on their immigration status.
  • Monitor and validate academic registrations and student eligibility for prescribed immigration benefits.
  • Update and review student records for completeness and accuracy.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Support and implement group and individual orientations throughout the calendar year.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and delivery of support programs with University offices.
  • As a member of the advising team, recruit and train volunteer student staff.
  • Create orientation materials.
  • Conduct relevant information sessions and assist in planning/implementing intercultural educational programs.

  • Data collection at all stages of inquiry, pre-arrival, arrival, during and post-tenure at UNH including updating and verifying student data according to U.S. Federal requirements and for internal UNH processes.
  • Monitor and validate academic registrations and student eligibility for prescribed immigration benefits.
  • Update and review student records for completeness and accuracy.

Duty/Responsibility

  • In collaboration with OISS staff, develop automated office procedures to improve and maintain compliance with federal regulations.
  • Work to enhance office efficiency and productivity through automation, especially Sunapsis software.
  • Assist students in the use of electronic forms.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and general meetings/committees across campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
