Essential Job Duties

The College Business Analyst plays a critical role in supporting data-driven decision-making within the Poole College of Management. This position will gather, analyze, and interpret data and information from a wide range of sources related to student enrollment, academic performance, faculty activity, and other operational metrics. The analyst will transform raw data into actionable insights that inform strategic planning, improve student success initiatives, and enhance overall effectiveness. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in the office in general.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Management:
  • Gather data from various sources, including student information systems queries, surveys, institutional reports and dashboards, and external databases.
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity through data cleaning and validation processes.
  • Maintain college-level data dictionaries and documentation to support data management and analysis.

Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Analyze data sets and identify trends, patterns, and correlations.
  • Create clear and concise reports and presentations to communicate findings to various stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop interactive dashboards and data visualizations to facilitate data exploration and understanding.
  • Analyze data related to faculty workload, course offerings, and program outcomes.
  • Data query management (including college-level data catalogs).
  • Support accreditation and compliance reporting requirements.

Decision Support and Strategic Planning:
  • Collaborate with leaders and stakeholders to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support strategic planning, policy development, and resource allocation.
  • Conduct ad-hoc data analysis to address specific questions and support decision-making processes.
  • Ability to choose an effective course of action or develop appropriate solutions and/or reach conclusions.

Other:
  • Collaborate and support colleagues on the Business Services team.
  • Smartsheet grid and dashboard development support for college units.
  • ServiceNow dashboard management for Business Services analytics.
  • Special projects such as requests from leadership with sometimes short deadlines.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders such as an internal data committee and the university offices of Institutional Strategy and Analysis and University Data and Analytics.
  • Skilled in conveying detailed and technical information, both in writing and verbally, to diverse audiences to ensure clear understanding of the message and information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, data visualization, and data management.
  • Expert experience with google sheets or excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with higher education data systems and reporting standards.
  • Experience with ability to learn the key workings and structure of the business school.
  • Experience with SAS VA, Tableau, or Smartsheet.
