Job Description

How to Apply

A cover letter is required for consideration for this position and should be attached as the first page of your resume. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position.

Job Summary

The University of Michigan Department of Anesthesiology is looking to hire a Temporary Research Therapist-Interventionist within the Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Center (CPFRC) Health Equity Core. The Interventionist will get to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team to develop and study treatments for conditions that have chronic pain and fatigue as core symptoms. At present, there is no known cure for many of the chronic illnesses we study, and we strongly believe successful treatment requires a tailored approach that considers a range of therapies for each person. Examples of these therapies include yoga, physiotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and cannabis. Our portfolio of research spans the translational spectrum from neuroimaging to community engagement. You can learn more about our center here: https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/cpfrc/about-us

The Interventionist will be working on a new project that aims to advance equity in lupus chronic pain through a yoga-based intervention that draws from motivational interviewing principals and social cognitive theory. Through this intervention, we hope to improve pain management, mental health, and function. Instead of assigning a regimented yoga practice, the Interventionist will work with individuals to tailor a treatment approach informed by individual preferences and limitations. The virtual Motivational Interviewing-based intervention will be manualized with certain topics that must be reviewed per each session with participants. This is a research-based position.

This position will start mainly on the currently described project, with the potential to assist with other projects. We are looking for individuals with effort up to 50% and are willing to hire someone at a lower effort.

Due to COVID-19 and the remote nature of this project, most work is currently being conducted through telework. However, the interventionist may need to come into the office for brief periods of time, observing the University of Michigan health and safety measures.

NOTE: A cover letter is required for this application. In your cover letter, please address how you meet the required qualifications and your interest in using Motivational Interviewing to help people with lupus manage their pain. Those who do not meet the minimum requirements nor submit a cover letter will not be considered.
