Reports To : Dean of Instruction -Curriculum & Academic Support

Supervision Received : Works under the direction of the Dean of Instruction.

Supervisory Responsibility : Supervises Management, Administrative/Confidential, Faculty, Classified, Student, Volunteer, and/or Temporary Staff of assigned department(s).
 
 
Position Summary

The Director of Academic Success & Library Services provides strategic leadership and fosters innovation in delivering comprehensive student support across multiple campuses through library and academic support services. This role oversees library operations, academic support services, testing administration, and tutoring programs, ensuring alignment with institutional goals to enhance student learning and success. Additionally, the Director supports faculty by facilitating academic resources and services that contribute to effective teaching and student achievement. The position is responsible for the overall planning, management, and continuous improvement of Academic Success, Library Services, Testing, and Tutoring.

 

Examples of Duties - Essential Functions 

Primary Responsibilities

1.
Department Management and Oversight
  • Provide strategic leadership and collaborate with faculty and staff to assess needs and implement innovative student support services, including tutoring, library, and testing center programs.
  • Oversee annual budgeting and ensure effective use of resources for academic and library services, while exploring external funding opportunities through grants and partnerships.
  • Direct and evaluate staff performance, align team goals with institutional priorities, and support continuous professional development.
  • Maintain accreditation standards, develop compliant policies and procedures, and use assessment tools to measure student success and inform program improvements.

2.
Faculty and Student Support
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate library and academic support services into coursework and provide training on available instructional resources.
  • Design and implement targeted interventions for student success, including tutoring programs, academic workshops, and online support tools.
  • Oversee equitable access to tutoring and testing services across campuses and build partnerships with external organizations to enhance academic support offerings.

3.
Institutional Leadership and External Relations
  • Develop and implement long-term plans that align academic support initiatives with institutional goals in collaboration with college leadership.
  • Assess and implement technology solutions and stay current with trends and best practices in higher education to improve academic support services.
  • Serve as a liaison for academic services, representing the college at community events.
  • Develop outreach strategies in collaboration with marketing to promote programs through various channels.
  • Prepare reports for institutional effectiveness, track departmental performance, and ensure compliance with FERPA and privacy regulations through staff training and oversight.

4.

Qualifications & Additional Position Information

1.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education – a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Library Science, Student Affairs or related field is required.
  • Experience – a combined total of four years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, demonstrating leadership in supervisory roles, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration is required.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education, Business, Library Science, Student Affairs or related field is preferred.

3. Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies)
  • Knowledge – Knowledge of student success strategies, library operations, and program development. Proficiency in data analysis and assessment tools.
  • Skills – Skills in leading diverse teams, managing change, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners. Strong project management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously, from strategic planning retreats to data system overhauls. Ability to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and maintain meticulous attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate strategic visions, write reports, and present data insights to various audiences. Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate workshops, negotiate with partners, and engage with community leaders. Skills in using technology to streamline processes, enhance data accessibility, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Abilities – Expertise in strategic planning methodologies, including environmental scanning, SWOT analysis, and scenario planning. Ability to align strategic plans with operational activities and long-term institutional goals. Understand, apply, and demonstrate the College’s core leadership competencies; work in a team environment with diverse populations; analyze data, think creatively, make objective decisions, and prioritize; engage in critical thinking and problem solving regarding complex data and data needs; manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently; proactively problem solve; plan, supervise, train, and develop staff; implement, direct, review and monitor programs and budgets; collaborate and communicate effectively and respectfully with staff, management team, client colleges, faculty, and the public; work effectively and collaboratively as a member of various management teams, councils, and committees; represent the college and its programs professionally; cope effectively with conflict; meet deadlines; work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings; drive a vehicle and travel within College district; and operate standard office equipment. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions. Pass a criminal background check.

4. Other Requirements
  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

  • This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

6. Physical Demands
The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials up to 5 pounds daily and 5-25 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. The employee is not exposed to hazardous conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and lighting is adequate.

 

Additional Posting Information

This is a Managerial/Supervisory position in the Academic Success & Library Services Department. Starting compensation will be based on Grade L of the salary schedule, in accordance with initial placement per the current Management, Administrative, and Confidential Employee Handbook. The compensation estimation below is based on the 24-25 salary schedule. Consideration of placement on the range will be provided based on related experience and educational achievement, but generally not expected to exceed the midpoint of the range.
