Supervisor, HVAC-R

Job Description

SUPERVISOR, HVAC-R, FACILITIES, Repair & Maintenance, will be responsible for 181 buildings within the campus portfolio consisting of approximately 13.5m GSF. Under the supervision of the Repair & Maintenance Senior Supervisor, Mechanical, will manage assigned campus area buildings to provide superior customer service and act as the point person for all mechanical system issues; provide technical expertise, leadership and direction to assigned team members; and provide weekend supervisor coverage on a rotating basis.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; a minimum of five years related experience in building operations and HVAC systems; supervisory experience and a strong background in a repair and maintenance setting with oversight over mechanical systems; demonstrated knowledge of boiler and other mechanical equipment; ability to manage work order backlogs and make good sound judgments when prioritizing daily work with demonstrated proficiency in job planning and execution; excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communications skills; experience with work order tracking systems and other computer applications; and available to respond to off-hour campus emergencies and to work any shift deemed appropriate due to operational needs.  PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; direct/related experience in repair and maintenance and/or facilities management in an academic setting; and knowledge of Labor Relations and conflict resolution.

Working Conditions: Ascending/descending stairs; traversing the campus; moving about the jobsite and machinery to access equipment; remaining stationary for extended periods of time; and working from ladders, scaffolds, and other above ground locations such as roofs. Personal protective equipment must be worn as required by the specific assignment. Environment contains dust, odors, and fumes, high levels of noise and temperature extremes. Work will be performed near steam and moving machinery, in tight areas and confined spaces such as manholes and crawl spaces, and with and around chemicals and solvents.  Some work performed in research labs and animal facilities and outdoors in inclement weather.
