The Position
This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a “pool” of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Cañada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. The advantage of “pool” positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teach day and evening sections of art with an emphasis on digital mixed media, two-dimensional drawing and composition, painting, design, color theory, and two or more of the following: figure and portraiture, western or non-western art history or other selected art classes both on campus and online
2. Design and implement a digital art laboratory for both fine art and graphic applications
3. Develop new curriculum in digital art
4. Modify art curriculum as needed, including student learning outcomes and assessment processes
5. Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, equipment, and technology that will enhance the offerings of the art department
6. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours
7. Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies and curricula
8. Participate as a member of department, division, and college committees
9. Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs
Minimum Qualifications
(NOTE: ‘’Master’s in fine arts” as used here refers to any master’s degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the “Master of Fine Arts” (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.)
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
Equivalence to Minimum Qualifications
b. Degree Equivalence
The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.
b. Academic Background Equivalence
Related to disciplines in which a Master’s Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:
i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree, and
ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.
b. Professional Achievement Equivalence
The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.

4. Demonstrated skills in digital art, two-dimensional drawing and design, figure drawing, painting, portraiture, and other art classes
5. Demonstrated skill in design, planning, budgeting for a digital facility
6. Demonstrated ability to use online tools to support instruction
7. Demonstrated knowledge of art history
8. The ability to develop instructional learning outcomes and to develop methods for assessing students’ achievement of these outcomes, as well as to ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress and use the assessment of one’s pedagogy and examine its effect critically
9. The ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students’ abilities and learning styles
10. The ability to use teaching methods that engage students actively in their own learning, promote development of critical thinking skills, and encourage them to become lifelong learners
11. The ability to use instructional methods that emphasize group cooperation and collaboration and that reflect cultural sensitivity and
interdisciplinary approaches to subject matter
12. The ability to teach students to create a digital portfolio of personal or professional art work as a presentation vehicle
13. The commitment to maintain currency in the discipline, and related technology appropriate to instruction, such as that related to digital art and information and communication technology, including the suite of Adobe programs
