Independently manage and execute complex in vivo animal studies in mouse models of solid tumors and biomarker analysis of mouse and human tumors in order to meet existing grant objectives/milestones and other funding objectives that support translational cancer research, including immunotherapy and other therapy. Independently manage and execute complex cell biology studies, including novel drug screening programs. Manage and coordinate research efforts with other collaborators as appropriate for multidisciplinary research. Plan, execute and follow-up on high level regular and ad hoc meetings of investigators and management. Conceive, plan, and conduct research projects based on collaborations, reviews of scientific literature and recent advances in related fields, organizing and executing all techniques involved. Contribute novel ideas of major methodological significance to the research projects, designing key experiments and developing new techniques. Support scientific journal manuscripts and book chapters submission. Manage and operate single cell sequencing and screening platforms for lab and other MCC members. Report directly to university regulatory offices, funding agencies and journal editors. Prepare and implement research study budgets based on analysis of data. Direct and advise the work of technicians, students, and post-doctoral fellows to enable them to successfully participate in laboratory projects. Manage online seminar series in collaboration with other assistants. Perform other duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSExtensive theoretical knowledge of virology, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology and/or Bachelor's Degree, including experience in establishing, maintaining, and transfecting virus/plasmids and/or equivalent education/experience.
Experience in designing, coordinating, executing, and analyzing data from in vivo studies using mouse models of cancer/oncology.
Experience performing intramural and subcutaneous injections, dissection of animal pathological analysis, and in vivo quantitative imaging.
Demonstrated experience in cancer/oncolytic rodent models, including genetically engineered models.
Skill in experimental design and adaptation of methods to achieve results. Experience in integrating data from multiple sources to synthesize conclusions. Knowledge and ability to read and abstract scientific articles and apply to the design of experiments.
Experience in the review of documents including SOPs, manuscripts for publication, patent applications, and/or grant proposals for potential funding.
Experience in providing technical work direction and training of students, post-docs, and technicians.
Experience in designing and executing cell biology experiments, analyzing data and deriving conclusions, developing experimental plans based on results from those preliminary studies, and contributing to grant or patent applications.
Experience and knowledge in developing hypotheses, design experiments, conduct experiments, analyze data, write manuscripts or reports, including all interactions with Reviewers or Editors.
Experience in managing multi-center projects and working under milestones driven projects, including knowledge in writing reports and experience in communicating with collaborators and funding sources.
Demonstrated experience in DNA and RNA extraction and use of extracted products in various PCR and sequencing methods.
Strong organizational skills, including experience in laboratory record keeping, budget analysis and managing logistics. Demonstrated knowledge of lab safety rules.
Demonstrated experience in contributing and implementing innovative ideas and techniques on complex and multi-disciplinary research projects.
Proven ability to read scientific papers and adapt knowledge and techniques from the literature to experimental systems.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including tack, diplomacy, and flexibility in order to work and interact effectively with staff, researchers, and management in person and on the phone.
Knowledge of PC software applications such as Word, Excel, Prism and PowerPoint to produce reports, correspondence, graphs, and spreadsheets to generate, track, and analyze data.
Demonstrated experience in managing and teaching lab personnel.
Experience with UCSD regulations, policies, and procedures.
Experience in designing and performing next generation RNA sequencing samples preparation and analyses.
Expertise in building and managing biobanking of primary patient samples, including maintaining records, interacting with Biorepository and follow-up.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $73,043 - $117,557 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $34.98 - $56.30
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
